You may have noticed your favorite Ebsco databases have a new look and feel! While the appearance has changed and you may be missing the familiar design that has been an Ebsco mainstay until now, the functionality and the content is the same.
Please have a look at the screenshots below referencing CINAHL, the Cumulative Index of Nursing & Allied Health Literature.
Starting Thursday, May 15, the updated design will be uniform across all Ebsco databases provided by Banner Health Library.
The Basics
- Your search terms go here
- View filtering options
- View search options, i.e. search any/all terms, Boolean operators, etc
- Browse publications indexed within the CINAHL Ultimate database
- Browse CINAHL Headings
Additional filtering options
- Evidence-Based Care Sheets are now accessible under the "Publication Type" filter
- Articles that provide CEUs are also accessible under the "Publication Type" filter
- The Clinical Queries search feature allows you to quickly apply predefined filters to your search! (Therapy, Prognosis, Review, Etiology)
- The "All Groups" filter allows you to target your search by age
Creating Alerts in Ebsco Databases
If you had created eTables of Contents alerts in Ebsco, you will need to re-establish those alerts in the new interface. It is relatively easy to do.
Scenario 1: Create an Alert for a Specific Journal
- Select the “Journals” tab and type in the name of journal to create your e tables of contents alert
2. Click on the Journal Title and note the database providing access (in this case Health Business Elite)
3. Select the vertical dots (harmburger menu) on right side of screen and select “Create Alert”
4. How you manage your alerts once you set them up!

5. Indicate email adress where alert should be sent, provide a brief description, and determine the nature and frequency of alerts. **Make sure to follow through all steps and click on “Create Alert” (bottom right corner). Voila!

Scenario 2: Create an Alert based on Your Search Terms or Topic
Let's say your interested in tracking research on your topic of interest. If you want to receive updates each time there are new articles published on research topics pertaining to your specific search terms, there's a way to do that pretty easily. If you want to track publications on the topic of lonliness and belonging, for example, see my screenshot beow.
- After entering your search terms, select the vertical dots button (hamburger menu) on right. Save your search to return to these results at another time.
- Create Alert: enter your email address to receive an alert anytime new articles are published on your search terms!
- See “Alerts” heading in left sidebar to manage all alerts in the future
