3rd Installment of The Research Rundown from Banner Health Library Services!

It's that time again when Banner Health Library Services staff review hundreds of systemwide literature search requests that have been submitted to the library during the past 3 to 4 months.

What questions keep Banner staff up at night? Are there patterns or trends that demand our attention?

From the library standpoint, we have the honor of supporting you and connecting you with quality clinical information. Ideally, library service makes your job easier and improves patient care. Library staff embrace the idea that sharing information openly and widely is incredibly valuable in and of itself. In fostering a "spirit of inquiry" at Banner, we make it our personal mission to encourage curiosity.

But the questions don't exactly stop there. How do you, the health care professional, use information? In what ways do information services contribute to patient care, practice changes, and the implementation of quality improvement projects? When you are taking care of patients in their most vulnerable time, what are the challenges and outright barriers you face? And how can we improve your access to clinical information services? These are the sorts of questions that keep us up at night.

Now, please have a look at some of the topics that have been important to Banner staff the past few months:

Trending topics from the months of June - December 2022:

  • Accuvein, Infrared Vein Viewing for Hard-to-Find Veins
  • Bendamustine as Lymphodepleting Therapy Prior to CAR-T cell therapy, Yescarta (axi-cel)
  • Dedicated Obstetric Specialist or In-House OB Provider
  • Endometrial Cancer & Preoperative Quality of Life Indicators
  • Educational Support for New Graduate Nurses & Transition to Practice
  • End-tidal CO2 Monitoring/Capnography & Simulation-Based Education
  • General Principles of RN Delegation (Workday Course)
  • General Principles of Case Management Delegation (Workday Course)
  • Gut-Brain Axis & Mental Health
  • Heat Therapy & Pain Control
  • Intraventricular Hemorrhage prevention & Extremely Premature Infants
  • Nurse-Physician Relationships & Power Imbalance

  • Recruitment & Retention of Millenial Nurses
  • Research Engagement & Marginalized Communities
  • Sickle Cell Diseases & Vaso-Occlusive Crises

  • Wrong-site Surgery + Best Practices

Note: The topics above have been distilled down to their most basic elements. In most cases, clinician questions are specific and concern a particular patient population. Each question we receive is as unique as the patients we serve.

Companion LibGuide: The Research Rundown is intended to inspire you adopt a spirit of inquiry. Please have a look at some of the "canned" search strategies related to topics highlighted here. These strategies were created in PubMed, but there are myriad clinical information resources (including databases, ebooks, and point-of-care tools) that we would love to share with you.
