From Batgirl to Borges and Everywhere In-Between: Happy National Librarian Day from your Banner Librarians!

The day had almost gotten away from me before I had a chance to say "Happy National Librarian Day!" Indeed, today is a day in which I'll be glad to shamelessly toot our own horns, so to speak-- to show gratitude for the work that librarians do as stewards of literacy, curiosity, knowledge, and intellectual freedom.

While we're all-too-familiar with shushing stereotypes, and some librarians do take pleasure in shushing the public, there is a sizeable list of incredible individuals who have found a home in this profession. Whether fictitious or real-life, have a look at this list of librarians. 

Not all heroes where capes, but many of them have encyclopedic knowledge, wear sensible shoes, are famous poets, and have challenged the status quo: 

• 50 Fictional Librarians, Ranked (Memory unlocked:  "The Grey Lady" from Ghostbusters! Also, I knew there was another reason I adored The Cheshire Cat!)
• While there are far more to name, it's awesome to learn more about these 6 Badass Librarians Who Changed History 
• Poet and Author, Audre Lorde, was also a librarian!
• 13 Pioneering Black American Librarians You Outta Know (Dorothy B Porter is one of my heroes in how she challenged racial bias in classification systems)
• Sanford Berman, shattering many a mold, "uncovered anomalies and deficits in standard cataloging procedures and reformed them locally"
• Writer and poet, Jorge Luis Borges, was also among the ranks of librarians!

I would be remiss if I didn't mention my personal favorite fictitious librarian, Mary, from the film Party Girl and her iconic library meltdown scene.
