Highlighted Library Services

Notable, nurses and nurse researchers are particularly active users of systemwide library services that support our Magnet journey. These user groups request full-text article delivery services, literature searches, and library training and orientation for both non-clinical and front-line staff. Librarian consults provide education and training in support of Evidence-Based Practice, Research and Process Improvement projects, as well as access to Covidence, a literature review management software.

Library staff participate in multisite groups including the Banner Nursing Research Steering Committee (systemwide), Research and Evidence-based Practice Committee (Phoenix) and Research & Innovation Council (Tucson) in support of the ANCC Magnet Model to foster a “Spirit of Inquiry”.

Recently, Clinical Research Program Directors and Librarians partnered to develop an institutional repository called "Nursing EBP, Research, Projects & Dissemination" to document and share research happening throughout the system.

Shared Projects

One of many successful EBP projects with support from Banner librarians pertains to Scalp Cooling Therapy for patients with textured hair. Librarians developed a search strategy to locate research articles and provided training in the use of Covidence to streamline the literature review process. Training also entailed teaching users how to import a large collection of articles into Covidence to facilitate abstract and full-text screening, as well as data extraction and use of collaborative features. We were thrilled to learn that this project was awarded funding to implement equitable evidence-based practice into care.
