What is OpenAthens?

OpenAthens Logo

OpenAthens is an authentication system that provides access to multiple online resources with a single username and password. OpenAthens runs in the background when users connect to any of the library resources. Starting March 1, 2021, OpenAthens was integrated with the Banner Health login system which eliminated the need for users to have a separate OpenAthens login credentials. Library users without a Banner Health email and password can still use OpenAthens with an OpenAthens account provided by the library. OpenAthens is engine for Banner employees and affiliates to log in remotely to use library books, journals, and databases on multiple platforms with a single user name and password.

Who Needs an Account?

Users without a Banner Health email such as physicians with privileges, affiliated staff, and partner organizations will need a library issued OpenAthens account. Interns or students on rotation at Banner should contact the library to determine eligibility. Former Banner physicians that have been designated as "Emeritus" or "Honorary" may have access to the electronic library resources.

Request an Account

Complete the OpenAthens registration form only if you do not have a Banner Health email address (BH.com). After review, an activation code will be emailed to you from Athens Note that it may take up to 3 business days for your account to be created and incomplete forms may delay processing.
