Banner Health Library Services is making changes to how you access our online resources.
We are working to minimize the number of clicks to get to our online content. The changes are also being made to ensure access remains secure. Finally, they are being made so many users have the convenience of utilizing a single username and password to access all Banner Health tools and platforms.
Users with a @bannerhealth.com email
On March 1st, if you have a Banner Health email, you will soon be able to bypass the OpenAthens login screen and utilize single sign-on with your email, password, and the Mobile Pass App.
Affiliated users without a @bannerhealth.com email
On March 1st, you will receive an email from OpenAthens.net with a new username and instructions for resetting your password.
We are doing our best to ensure the March 1st change goes as smoothly as possible. If you notice any access errors, or have any questions or concerns, please contact library staff. We are available by phone or chat weekdays from 8:00am – 4:30pm and may also be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org We appreciate your input.
Banner Health Library Services signs license agreements with publishers when subscribing to electronic/online resources. The terms of these agreements limit off-site access to eligible users. Eligible users are all Banner Health physicians and employees and some interns and students. If you are an intern or student, contact the library to determine eligibility.
Banner Health Library Services uses OpenAthens to access resources off-site. Our goal, at Banner Health Library Services, is to make accessing restricted resources easy for our customers. A single sign-on (SSO), like OpenAthens, enhances usability of our resources by reducing password fatigue and provides better security.
Access by IP Address
All library resources are accessible from on-site Banner computers. Our content providers can verify the computer location through the external IP address. This does not apply to personal devices on the Banner Health guest wifi. Access by IP authentication means that you do not need to use your Banner Health network credentials or an OpenAthens account to view any of library's full text content. If you are unable to access a resource from an on-site Banner computer, please get in contact with the library at email@example.com so we can investigate the problem.
Access by Banner Health VPN
“What Is a Virtual Private Network (VPN), and How Does It Work? When you switch a VPN on, it creates an encrypted tunnel between you and a remote server operated by a VPN service. All your internet traffic is routed through this tunnel, so your data is secure from prying eyes along the way.” VPN connection is provided by Banner Health IT. If you have the Mobile Pass app VPN connection you appear to be on an on-site Banner computer. Therefore, you will have unfettered access to library resources.
Access by Banner Health network credentials and Mobile Pass
If you have a Banner Health email, you will be able to utilize single sign-on (SSO) with your Banner Health email and password. The Mobile Pass App is required to access library resources off-site. To learn more about the Mobile Pass App please refer the resource guide for How to Enroll in Multi-Factor Authentication.
Access Using a Personal Account
Some resources provide a personalized experience such as for tracking CMEs, test prep materials, or personalized book collections. In most cases, you are required to create an account while using a Banner Health computer or VPN connection or Banner Health email address. A personal account may be needed to access the mobile version of a resource.
Access on Your Mobile Device
The library offers several different apps and web-friendly resources for your phone. In most cases, you will need to have a Banner approved mobile device to access the library resources. Approval for your personal device is a straightforward process which is handled by Banner Health IT.
